Grow Greene County surprises SCT, Adopt-a-Family with Give Back Awards

The Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation’s board of directors annually surprises an unexpecting non-profit organization with its Grow Greene County Give Back Award.  This year two organizations were the recipient of an award.

On Thursday morning, Nov. 19,  board member Brenda Muir surprised Sherry Graven, who coordinates the local Adopt-a-Family project with a check for $5,000 to use toward the yearly gift giving to families in Greene County.

Later that day, prior to the 7 pm show, Grow Greene County ex-officio board member Matt Wetrich surprised the staff at the Sierra Community Theater with a check for $5,000.  Grow Greene County board members know the pandemic has been extremely hard on theaters, especially small community-run theaters. The Sierra Community Theater is operated by a non-profit board that has updated the theater and operates it for the enjoyment of the community.

Grow Greene County came up with the idea five years ago to surprise an organization or two each year. Previous awards have been received by the Greene County Family Development Center, Youth and Shelter Services (YSS), American Legion, RAGBRAI coordinators, and Adopt-a-Family.
